Columbus Literacy Council works to develop unpaid internships that are both beneficial to our agency as well as to the individuals who are fulfilling these roles. Each intern gains significant exposure and personal experience in cultural sensitivity with the opportunity to meet students, volunteers and fellow interns from more than 82 countries around the world. Opportunities include:

Business Operations
As a business operations intern you will provide general support in human resources, accounting, marketing and operations. You will also assist with maintaining project files, drafting correspondence and general office maintenance.

As a communications intern you will provide support in student services including student orientation, assessment and placement. You will also assist in tutoring Basic Literacy and ESOL students.

As a design intern you will research and develop innovative physical and visual displays for Council programs and special events. You will also help to develop content for the website, social media outlets and general signage.

Grant Writing and Research
As a grant writing and research intern you will research and identify appropriate grant opportunities to support the Council’s mission. You will also work on developing project narratives and providing detailed grant information such as funding parameters.

International Studies
As an international studies intern you will work one-on-one and in small groups ESOL students. You will also speak with students about classes, testing and other questions. Patience is a must, as most of our students do not speak English.

As a journalism/writing intern you will generate copy for our website including news updates, program descriptions and literacy statistics. You will also gather new ideas to write press releases and news stories, draft letters, brochures, blog articles and other materials. You will also fact check, proof read, format and edit.

Non-Profit Administration
As a non-profit administration intern you will provide support in event planning, student services, grant writing, data entry, marketing and public relations. You will also conduct research for future projects and fund-raising initiatives.

Special Events
As a special events intern you will assist in planning and promoting upcoming special events. You will also help develop and solicit donations including calling, tracking and follow-up.
